致貝爾斯登和雷曼兄弟相繼倒閉。後果是：禁止金融業從事衍生性金融商品交易和自營交易，無異於禁止石油業離岸採油，都是阻止業者進入可以輕易賺進厚利的領域。
當希臘開始出問題時，德國銀行家、會計師和荷蘭預算專家，應該合力採取一切必要措施阻止問題蔓延。但歐洲人（和希臘人）拖泥帶水、吞吞吐吐、支支吾吾。因此，只占歐元區經濟3%的希臘違約將拖累整個歐元區，迫使鄰國不得不提供收拾善後的金援。
